The Department of Sanskrit, Deshbandhu College for Girls was established on August 1st 1955 with General stream only. It has been upgraded with the affiliation of Honours Course from the session of 2012-13. The department is enriched with a Seminar Library with a good collection of books and also the General library of the department is good with valuable books on Indology and Orientology. The department has organized valuable talks by eminent speakers on respective subjects.

• To facilitate more audiovisual classes.
• Make provision for special lectures and seminars for the better understanding of the language.
• Arrange more Film shows based on Sanskrit literature.
• Try to involve more students in Spoken Sanskrit Course, Vedik Chanting Course, Computer Course in Sanskrit Language.
• Try to open a course on Manuscriptology in Sanskrit.
The Department of Sanskrit has organized several events and activities, including:
*A Parent teacher meeting was held on 3rd January 2025.
*Special Lecture: Dr. Somnath Sarkar, Associate Professor at Kanchrapara College, delivered a lecture on "Traditional Indian Theatre and Classical Literature: Uncovering Indian Knowledge Systems" on December 23, 2024.
*Alumni Meet: The department organized alumni meet on November 23, 2024.
*Wall Magazine: Departmental Wall Magazine published on 27th November 2024
*Online Faculty Exchange Program: The department jointly organized an online faculty exchange program with Raidighi College on June 29, 2024.
*A Parent teacher meeting was held on 4th January 2024
*Alumni Meet: The department organized alumni meet on 13th June 2023
*Film Screening: The department screened the film adaptation of Shaakuntalam on May 11, 2023.
*A Parent Teacher meeting was held on 3RDApril 2023.
*Special Lecture: Dr. Aditi Bhattacharya, Assistant Professor at Barasat College, delivered a lecture on "Vedic Studies in Bengal" on March 22, 2023.
*A parent Teacher meetingwas held on7th June 2022.
*A virtual parent teacher meeting was held on 2nd January 2022
*World Sanskrit Day Celebration: The department celebrated World Sanskrit Day on a virtual platform due to the COVID-19 pandemic 22nd august 2021.
*Teacher's Day Celebration: The department celebrated Teacher's Day on September 5, 2020, through a virtual platform due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
*Guruvandanam: A program held on September 6, 2019.
*A Parent teacher meeting was held on 7th May 2019.
