Deshbandhu College For Girls

Ever since its inception 70 years ago, Deshbandhu College for Girls has unwaveringly catered to its committed vision for the education and overall development of women. Located in the heart of South Kolkata, at the busy intersection of Rashbehari Avenue, behind Kalighat Metro Station, this higher education institution serves female students from both urban as well as suburban areas. Affiliated to the University of Calcutta, one of the oldest colonial-era universities in India and under the resolute and compassionate leadership of its present principal, Dr. Anita Chattopadhyay Gupta, Deshbandhu College for Girls is unflinching in its journey towards excellence and in its quest to establish itself as a premier educational institution for women in South Kolkata.

                 Combining regular academic pursuits with a green vision, a thriving NCC and NSS Unit and value-added courses, the institution offers three and four year Major, Minor and Multidisciplinary courses as prescribed by the University of Calcutta and stipulated by the National Education Policy/ NEP. Simultaneously, it also offers three year Honours and General Programme courses in the older Choice-Based CreditSystem/ CBCS. 

                  The institution offers courses spanning 4 streams and 11 Departments in Humanities, Science, Commerce and Business Administration. The students can pursue mainstream programmes under B.A./ B.Sc/ B.Com and B.B.A. streams and also benefit from an eclectic gamut of value-added courses.  The institution also boasts of a well-stratified library with over 20,000 books, individual Departmental Libraries and a fully WIFI enabled campus. It also houses a computer laboratory for the benefit of students. There is an on-campus Girls’ Hostel to particularly cater to the accommodation needs of out-station students.

                  The institution regularly organizes  academic and cultural programmes, sports events, blood donation camps and student and staff excursions and field trips. The pursuit of research is continuously encouraged by the principal and members of the governing body, as a result of which the institution is able to foist its credentials on national and international platforms and forums.
