The department of Environmental Science is the newest addition to the B.Sc. curriculum in Deshbandhu College for Girls. The subject has been introduced in the General Course from the year 2017. This department is the first to have a pure science laboratory in the college building.
The responsibility of teaching Environmental Studies, a compulsory subject of the undergrade curriculum is also taken by this department.

▪ Organizing more Workshops/ Seminars and varieties of student interaction.
▪ The Department, in collaboration with the Department of economics, organized the ‘Distinguished Lecture Programme on 10th July 2021 with 2 eminent Speakers:
• Dr. Sugata Marjit, First Distinguished Professor, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade; Former Vice Chancellor, University of Calcutta; Former Chairman, West Bengal State Council of Higher Education; Former, Director, Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta.
• Dr. Syamal Roy, J.C. Bose National Fellow, DST, Govt. of India; Emeritus Scientist, ICMR, CSIRIICB; Former Dean, NIPER, Kolkata; Former Chief Scientist, CSIR-IICB, Kolkata; Former Vice Chancellor, Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University.
The entire webinar was streamed live on YouTube and garnered over 1000 views.
▪ The Department, in collaboration IQAC organized a Seminar to commemorate National Science Day (28th February) on 10th March 2022 with Dr. Pritha Bhattacharjee, Assistant Professor & Head, Dept. of Environmental Science, University of Calcutta. The programme was followed by an Inter-College Poster competition on different themes of Environmental sustainability.
▪ The Department, in collaboration EcoClub and IQAC organized a Seminar to commemorate World Forestry Day (21st March) and World Water Day (22nd March) on 24th March 2022 with two eminent speakers:
• Prof. (Dr.) Aniruddha Mukhopadhyay, Professor, Dept. of Environmental Science, University of Calcutta.
• Prof. (Dr.) Pradip K. Sikdar, Professor, Dept. of Environment Management, Indian Institute of Social welfare and Business Management (IISWBM)
The programme was followed by a logo designing competition for EcoClub by the students.
