The Department of Commerce is the largest department of Deshbandhu College for Girls which was set up in the year 2002 with the launch of the Undergraduate course in B. Com General specializing with Accounting and Finance under the University of Calcutta.
Honours in B.Com was introduced in the session 2009-2010. The College recognizes the need for Computer laboratory for the teachers and students of the Commerce Department as a part of the curriculum in two core subjects Information Technology and its Application in R&D Business for 2nd year students and project work for 3rd year Honours students. The department interacts with the students for frequent sharing of views and problems and guiding them throughout their course period. The learned faculty members strive towards realising the dreams and attaining the goals of the students. Students are encouraged to take part in departmental activities and in student development activities. The rapid growth of the Department is reflected in its expansion as well as novelty of its academic programmes. The Department is rich in its robust faculty. The Department is proud of its faculty who have visited foreign countries to present research papers and who have published several research papers in national and international journals.

• To organize more educational tours and Industrial visits.
• To organize some outbound programmes for students.
• To introduce Spoken English classes for students.
• To introduce new departmental activities like student competitions on Business Plan development and/or Case Study analysis.
During the Pandemic Lockdown, classes were held by online mode. Hardly any outdoor activity had taken place.
Lectures were delivered as per the routine and as per the convenience of the students.
